Lareb: drug safety knowledge

Any reported adverse reaction of medicines and vaccines is carefully analysed by Lareb and is stored at a central collection point: our database. This is how Lareb can monitor the safety of medicines and vaccines in the Netherlands. Lareb is also active in the field of safe drug use during pregnancy and lactation (teratology). Our department Teratology Information Service advises healthcare professionals on a good treatment.

Lareb is independent

Each year Lareb receives over 10.000 reports. Of these 20% are serious reports. This means that the ADR leads to (prolongation of) hospitalisation, permanent disability, birth defects, a life-threatening situation or death.

Lareb works independently and gives important reports of ADR  anonymously to the Medicines Evaluation Board.

International cooperation

Lareb works closely with similar organisations in over 100 countries worldwide. Our scientific knowledge we share (anonymously) with these countries through the European Medicines Agency (EMA) and the World Health Organisation (WHO). The results of our work appears in publications in Dutch and international journals.

Lareb is for everyone!

To monitor the safety of medicines and vaccines, it is important that we identify as many ADR's as possible. Even if it is not certain that the ADR is caused by the drug or the vaccine. Anyone can make a report to Lareb: healthcare professionals, patients and also the pharmaceutical industry.
