ConcePTION project has been launched

Today, only about 5% of medications have adequate safety information on use in pregnant or breastfeeding women. Obtaining reliable safety information can take 20 or more years to collect after a medicine enters the market. The ConcePTION team will work to create sustainable solutions to reduce uncertainty about the safety of medication use in pregnancy and breastfeeding. 

The project focusses on making better use of existing health data from daily practice. It will also enhance methods to collect patient-reported data. In addition, the project will explore new research capabilities to predict and measure maternal medication in breastmilk. In this way the project team hopes to close the information gap. 

ConcePTION will create a trusted biomedical ecosystem that can generate reliable evidence-based information regarding the safety of medications used during pregnancy and breastfeeding. It is aimed to provide this information in a form that is usable by both healthcare providers and women to facilitate informed decision making.

Netherlands Pharmacovigilance Centre, together with 87 other organizations from 22 countries are part of this project.
