Educational package for medical students

27-10-2015

Lareb, in collaboration with the Dutch Society for Clinical Pharmacology and Biopharmacy (NVKF&B) and the Research and Expertise Centre in Pharmacotherpy Education (RECIPE, VU Medical Centre Amsterdam) have developed a programme for pharmacovigilance education. This programme can be used by all Dutch universities in their clinical pharmacology and pharmacotherapy curricula for medical students.

The programme encompasses problem solving on adverse drug reactions and use of medicine during pregnancy, intended for undergraduate students. The second element of the programme is lecture and practice based assignment for recognizing and reporting adverse drug reactions during clerkships.

For now, the programme provides materials for medical students. But is has potential in other health care education curricula, such as specialist nurses and physician assistants.
We hope that the programme will prepare future health care professionals who will understand the importance of pharmacovigilance in every day practice.
