Florence van Hunsel appointed as Professor of Pharmacovigilance
Dr. Florence van Hunsel, pharmacist and senior epidemiologist at the Netherlands Pharmacovigilance Centre Lareb, becomes Professor by special appointment of Pharmacovigilance at the University of Groningen (RUG), effective November 1, 2025.

The chair is housed within the Groningen Research Institute of Pharmacy (GRIP), in the department of PharmacoTherapy, -Epidemiology and -Economics, and stems from the long-standing collaboration between Lareb and the University of Groningen in the field of drug safety.
Van Hunsel’s research focuses on methodological innovation in drug- and vaccine pharmacovigilance. During pandemics, pharmacovigilance is crucial to ensure vaccine safety.
Van Hunsel: “By detecting and better understanding in a timely manner, risks can be mitigated and patient care improved.”
Van Hunsel has been working at Lareb since 2005. In 2011, she obtained her PhD from the University of Groningen with research on the role of patients in drug safety monitoring. Her appointment strengthens the scientific collaboration between Lareb and the University of Groningen and contributes to the further development of pharmacovigilance, both nationally and internationally.
